Characteristics: Oil obtained by cold pressing of ripe, peeled castor seeds. Its laxative effect comes from the hydrolysis of ricinoleic acid in the small intestine. It does not irritate the pelvic organs and does not cause cramps. It also softens the stools. Occasionally there is a slight scratching in the throat when drinking, which is not harmful. It is used for a short time for acute constipation. The adult dose is 1-2 dessert spoons (15-30 ml). It takes effect after approximately 2-4 hours. It is not recommended for children under 16, pregnant and breastfeeding women, or against stenosis, inflammation in the digestive tract or pain of unknown origin.
